WHAT IS LASER CLEANING?

_

Laser cleaning removes contaminated coatings from a solid surface by irradiating them with the laser beam. By absorbing the laser beam’s energy, the targeted material will be ablated and explode the particles by the pressure of the interaction, causing the contaminants to break free from the surface. As the surface below does not absorb any energy, it stays untouched. Our laser cleaning technology is safe and eco-friendly.

How does it work?

Laser cleaning works by shooting nanosecond-length pulses of laser waves at contaminated material, exploding the particles into microscopic ones that are either vaporised and/or extracted. An extractor is used to capture the ablated residues as they are removed for an almost dust-free process with minimal clean-up. As the surface below does not absorb any energy, it stays untouched, resulting in zero damage. The equipment is designed for safe use in a wide range of applications. For personnel safety, the operator and nearby observers wear special laser safety glasses that provide comfortable eye protection.

Laser cleaning works in the following way:

  1. The laser sends short pulses of infra-red light to the surface
  2. The contamination absorbs the laser light
  3. The contamination ablates very quickly
  4. The substrate remains cool
  5. Any remaining residue can be extracted.
  6. Result: a clean, untouched surface restored to its original condition.

Our Laser Cleaning Technology is rapidly replacing older traditional surface blasting or high-pressure hosing methods that use materials such as dry ice, sand, glass or plastic as abrasive agents. Such conventional methods are costly and messy. Our laser cleaner is mobile or workshop and can be moved almost anywhere.

Laser Cleaning will often not require disassembly as the components can be cleaned in situ, and the laser cleaning head can access many difficult locations. Noise is minimal, and you can usually talk over the top of it.
